Hosting Change

My hosting plan with 1and1.com is ending in November. It was great while it lasted. I got a great deal for a three-year plan with 1and1 - FREE. But now, time to move.. I have relocated the site to Dreamhost.com's servers. Dreamhost gives almost unlimited space (200GB+) and bandwidth (2000GB+) and a ton of features like SSH access, custom DNS, PHP5. And for about $5 a month, I can host multiple domains on one account. Some of the other active domains that I manage are Ragzzmatazz.com, Toralcreation.com, Wpi2k.Net. If you want to score a $50 discount on Dreamhost, use this code - MAHESHRAJU - when you sign up.

And, if you see any broken links or images, drop me a note here. I hope to post more often. Next up, though is a long pending re-design of the site...

Strings - Live in Concert
Strings on Stage
Last nite, Chitra and I went to see 'Strings'. They were playing in Oakland as part of their 'Zinda Tour'. I've been listening to Strings ever since their first video 'Sar Kiye Yeh Pahar' released way back in the early 90s. Back then they were just a bunch of teens. After a long hiatus they came back in 2000 and released Duur, which had a reworked version of 'Sar Kiye'. Even Chitra loves their music. So when we got an invite from Prem to go to the concert, we jumped on it. Even though the auditorium where they played sucked, the band was still great to listen to. After they played some of their hits, they started doing covers of mainstream songs like 'Koi Kahe' from Dil Chahta Hai, 'Jaanu Meri Jaan' from Shaan and then songs from other artists like Ali Haider's 'Purani Jeans', Saagarika's version of 'Disco Deewane' and a few others. I enjoyed it, but would've preferred if they had sung more of their own songs.

But the best part of the nite was when the band invited everyone up close to the stage for the final set of songs. We were up in cheapest section and had no access to the stage area. But I sneaked in with Chitra to the floor level and we wriggled up all the way to the front. We had a great time for the last 15-20 mins of the concert. I snapped this picture using a cellphone camera.

August Tidings!
What a bitter-sweet week this has been... First I get the great news from Darpan, that he is getting engaged. I am so happy for him. Gana is also very likely to announce something very big. Yesterday though, I got some very saddening news. My childhood buddy's girlfriend for the past threee years is now getting engaged. Why? Because the two families could never come to an agreement on their relationship and I guess, she just gave in to her family's presssure. Damn IT!!! Thats not how this was supposed to end. Sometimes I still can't believe we live in the 21st century. Society and family can still ruin our lives with their stupid whims and fancies. Hang in there my friend... I wish I was there right now.

Even otheriwse this August was pretty eventful.. First on the 10th was the one-month anniversay of my engagement. Its been one very long month, I can tell you that. Jay and I completed five years in the US on the 11th. We both flew in together into Detroit on our way to Boston. Both of us were more or less strict vegetarians and we celebrated our entry into the US, in the best possible way - we had a "pepper-oni(on)" pizza at Detroit airport. We didn't realize what he had ordered that day for a couple of months.

I am back...
... Well, back from India that is. What initially was planned as a two-week trip to Bombay to attend Prem's wedding stretched into a 7-week trip. I had a lot of fun and as you all know had a great life-changing event. I attended three marriages, spent 4 weeks in Hyderabad, one weekend in Chennai, caught up with old buddies, went on a road-trip, boarded 12 different flights, took PMurthy on a two-wheeler ride in Chennai and between all this, got engaged :). The D-day was July 10th. Yup, it was one helluva trip...

And now its back to the daily grind. No time to feel jet-lagged, no time to reflect on those fun times and time to start paying huge telephone bills :).

The First Post
FINALLY!!

This has been in the making for such a long time. I have been planning on putting up this website and start writing a blog for a long time now. I guess I started thinking about this in Nov 2003, when I managed to grab the domain 'Mahesh.Net'. I started working on the the design of the pages after that. After some initial iterations, I finally managed to come up with this. I am no UI Designer and trust me, building this was no easy task. But then I sort of put it on the backburner and never really bothered to put the finishing touches and put it online. In the end, what really pushed me into finally putting it online was my newest toy - a digital camera. I needed a channel to share my pictures and Yahoo! or OFoto just doesn't work for me.

So here it is! Hope to keep this alive and keep posting.
