Digging up some old stuff...
I am have been trying for the past week or two to come up with a new color scheme and design for this website. While on it, I thought of trying to dig up some old sites that I had written. I remember publishing my first page way back in 1997 when all I had was just Shell access to the Net and an old 386 Notebook with a grayscale display. No fancy browser and no way to see the colors I was using. Later I did a complete site for my engineering college (VCET) and the first inter-collegiate cultural event we organised at VCET. Next came the websites I built on my personal space at WPI and also the ISO site that I co-authored. Finally comes the present site.
Using Google I was able to dig up these:
Aah. Breakfast.
Ever since I got back from India in June, I've a big motivation to get to work early. And the reason is fresh breakfast at work. See this blog post about our breakfast cafe.

My biggest surprises: people consume 1-1/2 gallons of kombucha tea - a little-known fermented drink - every day; and against all logic, some people ask for an omelet that's half egg whites, half regular eggs. What can I say? We aim to please.

My usual - A smoothie made from OJ, bananas, pineapples (mangoes whenever its available) alongwith an egg-white scramble with onions, tomatoes and some jalapeneos. Every once in a while, I grab a tall cup of Peet's coffee and buttered toast.
Whew! What a week!!
This past week has been one of the most tiring week I have ever had after coming to the Bay Area.
- Sunday. I had crashed Saturday night at Mehta's place (Meghna & Shreyans) after watching the recording of Filmfare awards. In the morning after a nice hot breakfast and chai made by Maggie, we headed out for a hike by the creek that runs behind their place in Fremont. Afternoon was spent playing some old Nintendo classics with Shreyans (much to the irritation of Meghna) like Contra, Baseball and a few others. A very late lunch of pasta, this time by Shreyans. I did help out a little - I chopped half an onion ;)
- Monday & Tuesday. 10am - 6pm I attended a class at work. Very interesting and useful. After having dinner I spent couple of hours trying to catch up on work, but couldn't do much. I stayed till about 1am on both days. Dinner on Tuesday was at Saravana Bhavan in Sunnyvale with Ashwini and Giri who had flown in from Seattle that evening.
- Wednesday. In at work at about 10am. Day time is never the best time for me. Too much happening around and I hardly get any useful work done. I had a lot of catching up to do and stayed at work at till 3:30am. During the day I also caught up with another friend from Seattle, who had started here this week.
- Thursday. More of the same. There was the sudden flurry of activity on my previous blog, and it felt good, to see that my friends and "old buddies" care to read the crap I write! (more of it coming your way ;) ). Again stayed up till 2:30 am. But I was very close to completion on my goals for the week, so it felt good.
- Friday. Thanks to Maggie's wake-up call, I was in at work by about 9:30am!! The weather outside was gorgeous and I just didn't feel like sitting inside and working. Anyways I did whatever I could and then went to Taco Bell for lunch with Sonali and Maggie. From there we headed out to Shoreline Park thats behind the campus and spent some time at the lakeside cafe. One of these days I want to go Kayaking here in the lake. I used to go Kayaking quite frequently when I was up in Seattle. I had plans for dinner in the evening. I was feeling bored wearing the same old jeans and shirts everyday. So I decided to go home and dress-up a little before heading out. At 7:30 I met Radmila, her man Chris, Amitabh, Archana and Badri (Archana's husband) for dinner. We decided on an Italian place on Castro St in Mountain View. Dinner was very good. Nice wine, good food and conversation. It was about 10:30 by the the time we left. Badri, Archana and I headed back to Fremont to Maggie's place. Maggie made a very interesting Kashmiri tea - with almonds, elaichi and some special type of tea leaves and NO MILK. It was very delicious. I'm gonna have her make it more often :). We watched "Jurm" a very ordinary run-of-the-mill Hindi movie. At some point during the movie all five of us watching the movie dozed off. Drove back home at 3am.
- Saturday. Got up at 7:30am and headed out to the ground for cricket. I got ditched by most of the team. There was just three of us at the ground and I was very pissed. Luckily we had a bat and a couple of leather balls and we practiced for about an hour and a half. I was actually feeling very good that I was bowling very consistenly. Hope I can do it during the regular matches, or maybe it was the heavier ball... Later in the afternoon played TT for another hour and half. I met Ashwini for dinner at a Mediterranean Restaurant. There was a belly dancer performing that night at the restaurant. An interesting observation made by us - the dancer didn't have much of a belly!!
I got up Sunday morning feeling very tired and drained. The weekend was over and I start all over again!!! The only time I was more tired was back during my Master's days in WPI when I was working on the project for Claypool's class. I remember that at one point, Nikhil Kshirsagar who was working on his OS project, and I spent a good 72 hours non-stop without almost any sleep in the lab. We probably slept about 4 hours during that stretch and went home only for having a wash and food. Though, I slept for about 20 hours at a stretch after submitting the project.
Maybe this week will be different. I will be travelling to the east coast and catching up with Jay and most of the WPI2K gang. Looking forward to that.
